Art Guitar #3
The Cosmos Guitar
Pietro Spagnulo, whose sculptural and furniture work has been featured at a mano Gallery, approaches the guitar as both instrument and object.
When invited to participate, he immediately knew how he wanted to approach the piece and embraced the opportunity to be part of the project.
Carving directly into the surface, he gives form to the vibration and resonance of sound, translating something intangible into a physical language. The body is covered in carved, concave circles that move across the surface in repetition, creating a sense of buoyant, bubbling energy, like sound made visible as it travels through space.
Rooted in his sculptural practice in wood, the process feels instinctive. The marks are not applied, but revealed, an extension of how he works with material.
A single patinated copper element introduces a quiet point of contrast, echoed subtly in the fretboard. The guitar is finished in a warm cherry stain, grounding the piece in a tone that feels both familiar and transformed.
This piece, Cosmos, will be available for raffle at The Art of the Guitar event on May 29.
